Jackson runs for school board District 4

WYE MILLS — Emily Jackson of Wye Mills is running for a seat on the Talbot County board of education, representing District 4.

Jackson majored in political science at Northeastern University in Boston, and enjoyed a wide variety of internships there, from working at the U.S. Department of Consumer Affairs to interning in Sen. Patrick Leahy’s (D-VT) office. After graduation, she concentrated on policy and nonprofit fundraising for various organizations, including fundraising to raise AIDS awareness and education in Africa.

She and her husband were working for the University of Maryland, living in Baltimore and decided they did not want to raise a family in that urban environment.

Jackson grew up in Vermont and said she had a sense of home, family and community and wanted that for her own family.

“So we looked high and low throughout Maryland for all of that,” she said. “We settled on the Eastern Shore. It has a sense of community and a sense of soul which I love.”
